It started pretty simply. Pastor Joe and I (I am Pastor Patricia) were talking about the ‘fun thing’ to do with the Confirmation kids this year. They work hard, and they are really good kids. So, last year we had dinner with their mentors and it was fun. But, not LOTS of fun. So, we thought about something fun. And then we thought about Alpacas.
Alpacas are fascinating, and Pastor Joe and I like to look at them every year at the State fair (which we never miss). We ask a lot of questions of the 4h and FFA kids who raise them. (okay, Pastor JOE asks a lot of questions!) And we drove past the Marquam Hill Alpapa Ranch several times in the last few months. So, what if we took the confirmation kids and their mentors to see the Alpacas?
The idea of having mentors is to help kids realize that believing in God, and being part of God’s church is really about relationship. And knowing a living breathing adult who loves Jesus and is part of a church is a pretty amazing thing. So we like the kids to hang out with their mentors. Not an easy thing, with the busy lives these kids lead. So we have a mentor event every year.
So this year it was Alpacas. And we learned so much, and we got to pet them, and feed them, and walk them around. Amazing. Kids, mentors, and Alpacas. I think Jesus would have had a great time at our Alpaca event. I know the kids did, and so did the adults.
In God’s love
